چکیده

Summary of cyclotron production methods of Pu (45,2 d), Y (106,65 d) and Sr (64,84 d) tracers via nuclear reactions with protons and alphas on U, Sr and Rb targets in wide energy range is given. Chemical methods of separation and purification of the tracers from the irradiated uranium, strontium and rubidium targets are described. The tracers were used for determination of Pu (239 – 240), Sr-90 and Am-241 in the samples (soil, plants, underground waters) from Semipalatinsk Test Site. Obtained results are discussed.

The application of unconventional PET tracers in nuclear medicine

The production and application of PET tracers has been a unique step in the progress of nuclear medicine in last two decades. The most important PET tracers include F-18, C-11 and N-13 radioisotopes and many nuclear medicine centers throughout the globe are using them. However some new tracers are under their way to the mass administration, currently being in th...

Strontium nitrate as a strong oxidizing agent in the structure of pyrotechnics reacts with fuel and produces light. Red light produced in the tracers due strontium nitrate is within the structure of pyrotechnics. The factors which may affect the particle size of strontium nitrate have been optimized using Taguchi method. The Functional conditions in experimental include strontium nitrate concen...

Measurement of 90Sr by Preconcentration/Matrix Separation and Reaction Cell ICP-MS

The tsunami after the 2011 Tohoku earthquake devastated a vast coastal area of eastern Japan. The Fukushima Daiichi nuclear reactor suffered meltdowns of its uranium fuel rods, resulting in the release of radioactive isotopes. One of the most environmentally critical isotopes released was strontium-90 (90Sr), a fission product of uranium and plutonium which has a half-life of 29 years, thus rem...

Anthropogenic and natural radionuclides in soil of a tropical rainforest of Southern Costa Rica

Radiometric investigation in a rainforest of the Golfo Dulce region of southern Costa Rica has shown the presence of the anthropogenic radionuclides caesium-137, strontium-90 and the plutonium isotopes 238, 239 and 240 along with the naturally occurring radionuclides 7Be, 40K, 238U and 232Th, and respective progenies. 137Cs, 90Sr and Pu can be attributed to global fallout; no other sources coul...

The determination of strontium-90 in environmental materials by ion exchange and preferential chelation techniques.

A method for determining strontium 90 in environmental materials is described. It consists of the ion-exchange separation of strontium from calcium at an elevated temperature by careful control of pH and the molar ratio of Ca:EDTA, followed by scavenging, Activity of the Sr-90 is determined by counting the yttrium 90 daughter. Recovery of strontium is determined with Sr-85 tracer. Typical recov...
